Do you suffer from dry eyes? Restoring Healthy Tear Film Function could be for you.

Lumenis Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) with Optimal Pulse Technology is an advanced treatment that delivers precisely controlled pulses of light to the skin around the eyes, helping reduce inflammatory mediators and abnormal blood vessels associated with ocular surface inflammation. The light energy also supports mitochondrial activity within cells. Together, these effects support healthier meibomian gland function and improve tear film stability, providing long-term relief from the symptoms of evaporative dry eye disease.

How does Intense Pulse Light Therapy work?

Don’t ignore the signs. Discover the underlying causes and effective treatments.

IPL gently warms and liquifies blocked oils within the meibomian glands.
Improved oil flow helps reduce tear evaporation and stabilise the tear film.
Light energy decreases inflammation affecting the eyelids and ocular surface.
Treatment reduces abnormal blood vessels that contribute to chronic eyelid inflammation.
Healthier gland function promotes greater comfort, clearer vision and long-term symptom relief.

What does IPL feel like?

Most patients find IPL treatment comfortable. During the procedure, protective shields are placed over the eyes and pulses of light are applied to the skin around the eyelids. Patients typically describe the sensation as a gentle warming feeling or a light elastic band flick against the skin. Treatment is quick, requires no downtime and most people are able to return to their normal activities immediately afterwards.

How many IPL treatments are recommended?

Most patients benefit from an initial course of 4 IPL treatments, typically performed 2–4 weeks apart. This allows the treatment to progressively reduce inflammation, improve meibomian gland function and restore tear film stability. While many patients notice improvement after the first few sessions, optimal results are usually achieved following the complete treatment series. Depending on the severity of Dry Eye Disease and individual response, occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended to help sustain long-term relief.

Will future IPL maintenance treatments be required?

Dry Eye Disease is typically a chronic condition, meaning ongoing management is often required to maintain long-term comfort and eye health. Following the initial IPL treatment series, many patients benefit from maintenance treatments every 6–12 months, depending on the severity of their condition, symptoms and response to treatment. Regular reviews allow us to monitor your progress and recommend a personalised maintenance schedule to help preserve the benefits of treatment and keep your eyes feeling comfortable.

Can both IPL and LLLT be used to treat dry eye disease?

Yes. IPL and LLLT can be used separately or in combination, depending on the underlying causes of your dry eye disease. Combining treatments can provide a more comprehensive approach by targeting inflammation, meibomian gland dysfunction and other factors contributing to dry eye.

Our Premium Dry Eye Package combines several complementary treatments:

4 × IPL treatments
4 × Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) treatments
4 × Meibomian Gland Expression treatments
1 × ZEST™ Lid Deep Cleaning treatment

Your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual dry eye symptoms and the condition of your eyelids and meibomian glands.

Is Intense Pulse Light Therapy right for everyone?

While IPL is a safe and effective treatment for many people with Dry Eye Disease, it may not be suitable for everyone. Factors such as pregnancy, certain medications, skin conditions, recent sun exposure and some medical conditions may affect eligibility.

A focussed dry eye assessment will determine whether IPL is the most appropriate treatment option for you.
