Take Control of Myopia and Protect Vision for Life

One-third of the world’s population has myopia, and this could increase to 50% by 2050. Myopia management aims to slow the progression of short-sightedness in children and young adults, helping to protect long-term eye health. Early intervention is vital to preserving clear vision and healthy eyes throughout life thus preventing progression to high myopia, reducing lifelong risks of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Myopia control has multiple evidence-based approaches: MiYOSMART spectacle lenses, specialty contact lenses including Orthokeratology (Ortho-K), MiSight and Abiliti dailies and low-dose Atropine drops.

Surrey Hills Eyecare are dedicated to creating tailored myopia management plans that meet your child’s unique needs and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should myopia control start?

Myopia progression is fastest in young children so starting control as soon as possible is recommended.

Which myopia control treatment is best to start with?

This depends on the individual child and their personal preferences. For example; are they interested in wearing contact lenses? What sport do they play? What are their sleep patterns? All myopia control options are effective and are available to all myopic children, no matter their age. We will help you determine which is best for your child.

When do you stop myopia control treatment?

Myopia progression starts to stabilise in the late teenage years but 1/3rd can still progress into their 20’s. There’s no rush to stop treatment; together, we can decide when the time is right.

What is Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)?

Ortho-K uses specially designed overnight wear contact lenses to gently reshape the cornea, providing clear vision during the day without glasses or contacts. It has been shown to be effective in slowing the progression of myopia in children and adolescents.

Why is myopia a concern, and why is it important to control it?

Myopia (short-sightedness) can worsen over time, increasing the risk of serious eye problems such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic maculopathy. At Surrey Hills Eyecare, we help slow this progression with proven options including orthokeratology, soft contact lenses, specialised myopia-control spectacle lenses and low-dose atropine therapy, plus tailored lifestyle advice protecting your child’s vision and long-term eye health.
